9/11. There is not another date in the history of humanity that brings to light the memories of exactly where one was that day and what they were doing when they heard the news.

The world stood still and watched while the United States of America was attacked on its own soil by Muslims. The day that terrorists did not decide to attack white Americans or black Americans, but decided to kill ALL Americans.

I was living in Sharjah, just outside of Dubai, with my family, eating dinner, when my dad’s cousin who lived in Louisiana called in a panic to turn the TV on. My dad asked “what channel?” His cousin frantically replied “it doesn’t matter, just turn it on.”

I was 13 years old, American born, with big dreams of going back home where I would be safe and free from the Islamic family and community I was born into. Here I was watching my country being attacked by the very evil that has terrorized my own life; Islam. With hand over mouth, silent tears were running down my face. I didn’t realize that for a brief moment I had lost my hearing as I watched the second plane hit the towers. That’s when I heard laughing. I looked behind me and my dad was laughing and celebrating by dancing the dabkah. He said “finally they get what they deserve, look at them die, this is for our blood, for Palestine, Allahu Akbar.”

I couldn’t understand how he could be so happy that there was an attack on Americans when he wanted to be one so badly….his kids were Americans!

I went out to the balcony where I heard shouts of joy, horns honking by cars passing by in celebration, K’aik (celebration biscuits) was being passed out. My very westernized looking, non-practicing Muslim dad hurried out of the house to join the celebrations. My mom came in and said “I’m sorry,” with teary eyes, “this is not ok, we don’t celebrate the death of innocent people.” That was something I heard her say all too often growing up in the Middle East when TV stations broadcasted graphic videos and pictures of Israelis being murdered as trophies. I looked at my mother and said “We are going to war and I am going to fight in it for my country and with my people.” My mother cracked a smile of agreement, perhaps not taking me very seriously. I remember our first time out since then, we were at the mall. I wore my “born in the USA” shirt (naturally, always have been an in-your-face, proud American) with a smiley face that had an American Flag headband on. One of the locals yelled at me from the top floor and then spat on me. I took off running after him but to no avail. By the time I was 19 I was in Iraq. I worked for 13 consecutive months, 7 days a week with no vacations or days off for over 12 hours a day. I have not stopped the fight since I got back.

Dictionary.com defines a terrorist as a person who uses or advocates terrorism. Therefore, everyone who celebrated, condoned or did not pass judgement against terrorist acts became a terrorist, if even for that day.

There are different tiers of terrorism. The first are those like the hijackers who are willing to go out and do the deed. Then there are the financiers, that includes every single Muslim that gives the Zakat to a mosque because every single mosque is obligated to give part of the Zakat to finance Jihad in one way or another. The next tier is the suits. You know who I am talking about. The men and the women like Nihad Awad and Linda Sarsor who act as defenders of Jihad and want to cripple us economically, politically and culturally. Then there are the teachers. This tier includes Imams and sheikhs all over the world not willing to go be “martyrs” themselves but they cowardly and demonically fill the hearts and minds of Muslims to go out and commit these great evil deeds with promises of paradise, rivers of wine and virgins to boot. The final tier is the average Muslim who will not blow up a building or stab a Jew, this Muslim would not participate in a rally put on by Linda Sarsour or even go for a Friday prayer. This Muslim however will celebrate the death of Westerners on social media or even at home. All of the people participating in any of these tiers are terrorists. Are all Muslims terrorists? Absolutely not. If anyone of any faith or creed fits into one of those tiers then they are terrorists. The difference is that Islam endorses all of those tiers of terrorism.

It has been been 18 years since 9/11/2001. Our nation went from being united in a way we have never seen before or since to a nation divided by those who are more worried about the false concept of Islamophobia and the gravely mistaken notion of “Evil America,” than they are worried about the truth.

Today I reflect on my past and the dungeon that was Islam that I was brought up in. I grieve for American Muslims living in that same dungeon here in the USA because their friendly not Muslim liberal neighbor is willing to sacrifice their freedom for tolerance. I grieve for Muslim girl that underwent female genital mutilation by Muslim doctors right here in America. I grieve for Muslim girls killed in the name of honor right here in America. I grieve for Muslim girls forced into marriage under age and as adults right here in America. I wish that 9/11 was a wake up call for us as Americans and how important it is for us to shine brighter into this world, but unfortunately we hit the snooze button and drifted off into a sea of self loathing and tolerance of evil. I wish 9/11 helped us save even one of these American Muslim girls that by some divine miracle I am not one of, but it didn’t. Now, we turn a blind eye and call it tolerance.

NEVER FORGET does not just mean hold something into memory, it means never again will we let it happen, it means that we will be ready, we will work to get better and to be better. My daughter Anna is 2.5 years old and my son Michael is in hotel mommy and is due soon. I am putting together a mental plan of how I can make sure that my children learn the truth, know the facts and never forget who we are as Americans, the great blessing bestowed upon us from Heaven and who our enemies really are. Make no mistake about it, the enemy is not dead or defeated and is very much plotting against us. They are raising their next generation to kill our children, are you getting your kids ready to defend their faith and freedom?

So, I beg you, NEVER FORGET.

  1. Wow, I’m so sorry for what you have been through. The judging, manipulation, your pain and psychological impact it COULD HAVE had on you as a young child. The confusion it COULD HAVE had on you if it weren’t for your mother. God Bless you and your family and welcome HOME.
