…Or how the West slits its own throat

The deal was, we the citizens, agree not to kill each other over disputes or just for fun, and in return the government agrees to enforce the law equitably and promptly.  A reciprocal arrangement that has enabled the freakish success of Western civilization.

In essence, we grant the government a monopoly on the use of force for all circumstances aside from self-defense.  But what happens when one side or the other fails to uphold their part of the bargain?

Well, if it is the citizen who violates the rule, he is subjected to the full power and force of the government until he complies.

If it is the government that fails, the citizens determine if it is simply bad policy, or a deliberate abuse of power.  If the former, then reforms are adopted to rectify the mistake.  If the latter, then heads must roll (figuratively speaking!) and the violators are replaced and punished.

But what do we do when the latter scenario becomes the norm, not the exception?  When the abuse of power is standard operating procedure, not a rare and aberrant circumstance?

The same remedy applies, but when it must occur on such a massive scale as would be necessary to cleanse the government of today, we have a different name for it – we call it a revolution.

No, I’m not calling for the violent overthrow of our government, so put down your phone.  You don’t know the number to the FBI anyway.

I’m simply pointing out the scale of the task before us, as we attempt to retain the republic that Benjamin Franklin warned us would be so difficult to keep.

So, aside from the typical corruption born of greed and lust for power, what threats to the social contract stand out from the crowd?  I would say that misguided “equivalence theory” represents the most dangerous threat to liberal democratic society since the “targeting” rule in NCAA football.

Ok, I’m joking about the “targeting” rule.  It’s bad, but only in an annoying way, not like “equivalence theory” which is bad in a “we-won’t-survive-it” sort of way.

Equivalence theory holds that all cultures, all societies, all ethics, religions, norms and mores are equally valid.

For those who can name the cast of “Dancing with the Stars,” but not their Congressman or Senator, you can distill Equivalence theory down to a single phrase – “who am I to judge?”

Equivalence theory has bastard children as well, demon-spawn with names like “multiculturalism” and “political correctness,” both of which have progeny of their own, such as “victimhood” and “race-baiting.”

The number of offspring is nearly limitless now, after several decades of rabbit-like reproduction in the bordellos of academia.  Where you find a trumped-up grievance (or even a legitimate one that has been dramatically overblown) you will find at its root an equivalence argument that precludes rational discussion.

Equivalence theory is the mental perversion that permits otherwise sane people to accept insanity, as long as someone, somewhere can say that this particular insanity will redress a grievance, no matter how old, no matter how slight.

It is also how the government has managed to turn the social contract on its head.  As you recall, we citizens agreed not to kill each other in return for the government defending us individually against attacks, whether those be physical, or criminal.

However, equivalence theory places certain aggrieved groups above the law, allowing them to behave in a lawless fashion with virtual impunity.  Worse yet, if the citizen attempts to interdict this behavior themselves, they are set upon by the government with a zeal reserved only for the most despicable of miscreants.

It’s a simple thing really.  People have made foolish self-serving arguments from the dawn of time, however in most societies, these arguments were met with the laughter and derision they deserved.

Eventually though, politicians of the left realized that championing the aims of the fundamentally foolish was an easy ticket to electoral success, and identity-politics was born.

Rather than strangling this perversion in the crib, spineless opposition gave in to nearly every demand in order to keep from being labeled as “racist, sexist, homophobic,” etc.  You know the drill.

Now we watch as criminals break into homes, are shot by the homeowner, and the homeowner is led away in cuffs.  If he is lucky enough to avoid criminal prosecution, he still faces the specter of a civil suit for depriving the deceased criminal of his right to the homeowner’s stuff.

As I said, equivalence theory makes the ridiculous commonplace and the obscene mundane.

So how does it kill?  The modern expression of base evil can be found in the perverted ethos known as Islamism.  ISIS is merely the most honest expression of this stunted, flea-bitten ideology.

Throughout Europe, Muslims have declared neighborhoods, and in some cases entire cities to be autonomous Islamic enclaves, not subject to the laws of the host nation.

In Malmo Sweden, the entire city is no longer under the control of Swedish authorities.  Sharia law, applied by Islamic courts is enforced against Muslim and Swede alike.

More than twelve cities in England have “no-go” areas, where even the police will not enter without a militarized presence.  Crimes are committed regularly, but not reported to British authorities because the local Sharia court metes out justice.

Worse still, even cases of known child abuse and sexual exploitation are ignored by British authorities, dismissed as “cultural” issues.  In one most recent case, police in Rotherham, England arrested the parents of underage British girls when the parents attempted to rescue their own children from the houses of Muslim pimps who had forced their children into prostitution.

Heinous crimes are ignored by those charged with the enforcement of the law, all to avoid possible rioting and “cultural unrest,” by the Muslim perpetrators.

(Before you congratulate yourself on being “above-all-that” here in America, recall the supine behavior on the part of law enforcement that occurred while “aggrieved justice-seekers” helped themselves to televisions, cellphones and booze in Ferguson, Missouri.  Nothing says PROTEST like a new pair of free Air Jordan’s!)

Now, back to Great Britain.  Multiple attempts were made by honest social services workers to bring this illegal behavior to the attention of their supervisors, but in at least one case, the whistleblower was told to ignore it, and was sent to mandatory sensitivity training for having the temerity to mention it in the first place.

At last count, more than 1400 underage British girls were raped, beaten and forced to turn tricks by a cadre of Muslim men, operating largely in the open, protected by government-sanctioned blindness, all in the name of multiculturalism.

But hey, “who are we to judge?”
